Howard County Disposal Rules
Howard County residents with county collection can request bulk trash pickup through the county’s online form. Scrap metal pickups must be scheduled in advance. The county notes that bulk trash ends up in a landfill.
That landfill is Alpha Ridge, on Marriottsville Road in Marriottsville. Residents need proof of residency to use it. Remodeling debris from home projects comes with a tip fee.
The bigger catch is vehicles. Alpha Ridge treats any trailer, box truck, dump truck, or rental vehicle as commercial. Those must cross the scales and carry an annual commercial permit. Without one, you are turned away.
So a large cleanout means many car trips or a permit you will rarely use. We handle the hauling and disposal in one visit.
Many items never reach Alpha Ridge at all. Usable furniture and household goods go to donation whenever possible.
